A former Wrexham gym that has remained vacant for three years is set to reopen in early 2015.

Total Fitness has announced today that it will reopen its Wrexham health club in the New Year, as they say, ‘bringing its number of health clubs across the North of England and Wales to 17’ *.

The gym, which is located in Rhosddu closed suddenly in 2011 – resulting in the loss of 27 jobs in Wrexham.

Writing on their website, Total Fitness state: “We are very pleased to announce that a brand new, long term lease agreement, with a locally based Wrexham landlord (Urban Developments) is now in place and the club is due to open on 1st April 2015.”

The reopening of the Wrexham gym comes as a result of the company’s expansion, with the gym chain reporting earlier this year an increase in operating profits.

Earlier today it was confirmed that up to 40 jobs will be created as result of the gym reopening.

Richard Millman CEO of Total Fitness said: “We are really excited about coming back to Wrexham, where we are working with a locally based landlord to refurbish the facility, to deliver the widest health and fitness offering in the area at a really competitive price.

“Wrexham represents another major step forward in the Total Fitness journey and we look forward to making further steps forward in 2015 and beyond.”

The reopened club will benefit from a £1million+ investment, including a health and fitness suite, an indoor sprint track, a training zone, a ‘Mind & Body’ studio; and three swimming pools, including a hydrotherapy pool, a training pool and a six lane 25 metre pool.

Swimming lessons and exercise classes will also be available.

Joanne Hallam, Head of Sales, Marketing and Fitness said: “This is a fantastic time for Total Fitness, after a strong year of building the Total Fitness brand, we cannot wait to wow the local community as we are so proud of the facilities and fitness product on offer.”

Presale of memberships will begin today on the Total Fitness website and in-club in January 2015.

A thread is ongoing on the Wrexham.com Forums about the planned reopening – you can read it here!
