We popped up to Martin Rees Jewellers on Chester St and they told us that six of their staff including Mrs Ruth Rees will be attending a ‘gem workshop’. This workshop is quite special as it is being given by an internationally renowned gemmologist Eric Emms.

The workshop is being held in Glyndwr University on the Plas Coch campus on Thursday and Friday this week. There is a workshop on coloured gemstones on the Thursday with diamonds being the focus on Friday.

Ruth told us “Eric Emms has shared his love and knowledge of diamonds and other stones worldwide for over thirty years. He believes learning about gems shouldnt be about maths and science, but enjoying why gems are beautiful and rare, and how to judge their quality and value”.

“During Erics career hes examined some of the worlds most famous gems including the Moghul Emerald and the Cullinan, Koh-i-Noor and Agra diamonds. We might not see anything quite that awesome this week but it will still be a great chance to see some of natures most wonderful creations right here in Wrexham rather than have to travel to London or Birmingham.”

You can read more about Eric on his website by clicking here.

Ruth also mentioned the help and support from Glyndwr in organising the workshops who are apparently providing a teaching room for free.

Places are available for the workshops costing £195.
