A local football club has once again been targeted by antisocial behaviour and mindless vandalism – with questions being asked over what is going to be done to tackle the ongoing issues.

Brymbo Football Club said between 30 and 40 youths congregated on the pitch at the sports and social complex last night, drinking alcohol, playing loud music and “causing disruption to the local residents.”

Glass bottles have also been purposely stuck through the ground across the football pitch.

The incident is one of a series to have taken place at the club over the last 18 months.

In a statement released by the club today questions have been asked over why the group are breaking lockdown restrictions and what is going to be done about the ongoing issues of antisocial behaviour.

The statement says: “Over the past 18 months and more recently within the last three months, the vandalism has been so bad, it has cost Brymbo Football Club along with other Clubs within our complex thousands of pounds in repairs, replacement seating, cladding and advertising boards as well as the labour costs.

“Only yesterday, members of our club committee volunteered their time to carry out maintenance work to improve our facilities.

“The following questions need answering immediately.

1. Where do the parents think they are when they’re supposed to be home during Covid-19 Lockdown?
2. Do they not realise how dangerous sticking glass bottles into the pitch is?
3. What is going to be done about this ongoing issue?

“This has now gone way beyond the point of anti social behaviour to the point where it could cause serious injury to other people. This has become a continuous on-going problem that needs to be addressed NOW.

“This incident was reported to the police by a number of different members of the community and we are awaiting an outcome.

“If anyone has any information regarding who was involved then please contact Brymbo Football Club via our website or privately through our social media channels and the details will be kept confidential and passed on to the Police.”

Commenting on the statement by Brymbo FC, Councillor Paul Rogers said: “The ongoing anti social behaviour and vandalism at Brymbo Sports and Social Complex cannot continue.

“There have been a significant number of incidents taking place of a period of time resulting in a productive meeting took place with North Wales Police which took place last Friday.”

“I was disappointed to learn that last night it was reported that between 30-40 youths were on site drinking alcohol and playing loud music.

“Furthermore that glass bottles were deliberately embedded into the football pitch.”

“Having spoken to the control room myself last night, I have today asked for an update on the incident and what actions are to be taken as a result. Someone could be seriously hurt if action is not taken”

“This is hugely frustrating for everyone involved with the Complex.

“Those who are working tirelessly for Brymbo FC and our community have my full support on addressing this issue”
