A speech and language therapist has retired after 25 years helping patients in the Wrexham and Flintshire area.

Susannah Worthington, from Ruthin has worked in the NHS for 40 years, previously in Leicester and north-west Wales and then for the last 25 years at Wrexham Maelor hospital.

Susannah said: “It has been absolutely fabulous working as a speech and language therapist in the Maelor. I was previously service manager but I went back to clinical duties and it has been truly wonderful being back working with patients.

“It’s so rewarding. When I work with patients I’m completely absorbed in the moment and what we can do to help them.”

Head of Speech and Language Therapy for the East Area, Cara Spencer said: “Congratulations to Susannah on her retirement. She deserves a wonderful time, having worked as a speech and language therapist since 1978, and for our organisation since 1993.

“She is a fierce ambassador for excellent patient care, and a role model and friend to everyone who has had the privilege to work with her. We will miss her very much, and look forward to news of her many adventures to come.”
