The long-awaited resurfacing works of the Tesco Roundabout will begin this weekend.

Taking place from Sunday 13th October, the roundabout will be closed between 8pm and 6am for six nights while the roadworks take place.

During this time motorists will be able to access the Border Retail Park and Tesco via Crescent Road.

Councillor David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport said: “I know everyone will be pleased this work is to take place particularly before the winter months.

“It is a very busy roundabout and the works will cause some disruption.

“We ask for patience during the works and look forward to seeing a fully resurfaced roundabout.”

The now infamous potholes and their re-patching have been a gripe and the subject of ongoing complaints for many motorists across Wrexham over the past 12 months.

However when it was discovered that the councillor car park at the Guildhall was being tarmacked, questions were asked by members of the public as to why that had taken priority over the likes of Tesco Roundabout and other potholed roads across the county borough.

Using our monthly opportunity to pose questions to executive board members at the media brief, Wrexham.com asked why the car park took priority over the infamous Tesco Roundabout potholes.

Cllr Bithell, defended the resurfacing works and reiterated that there had been “health and safety concerns around pedestrian entry and exit at the car park.”

He continued: “It is an officer decision. We agree policy as elected members, we don’t pick and choose what we want to do.

“I have seen all the comments saying that it is a councillor car park. But I would just like to remind everybody that it is not a councillor car park because it is a public car park that the councillors use.

“Also, we do use the entrances as a civic entrance for weddings and everything else, along with registry department that that takes place and the events on Llwyn Isaf.

“So you could argue that it’s part of our important landscape in Wrexham and part of the town centre, to make sure that it’s viable and economic for growth in the town centre as well.”

Works will begin at 8pm on Sunday night. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and all businesses will remain open as normal opening times for the duration of the works.
