Temporary changes have been made to waste and recycling collections across Wrexham over the next few weeks.

It comes after members of Unite at Wrexham Council extended their industrial action until November 24.

Union members are campaigning for a fair pay deal with the local authority.

Representatives this held a meeting with senior council staff, with a second meeting planned for next week.

The local authority have called on Union to end their industrial action. However according to the council Unite have indicated that they will reconsider their position in seven days time.

As a result of the disruption to bin collections Wrexham Council have confirmed that a temporary three-week cycle will be introduced for the next few weeks.

The new, temporary collection schedule will start from Monday October 9:

  • Your black/blue bins and food waste one week
  • Your dry recycling and food waste one week
  • No collection for one of the weeks

A council spokesperson said: “It’s important to note that your collections won’t necessarily be in this order e.g. your black bin collection may not take place in the first week.

“It may happen in the second or third week, which is why it’s really important to always check your bin day first.

“During this period, the best way to stay up to date on when your collections are taking place is to enter your postcode in the check your bin day section on our website.

“Please share this info with your friends, family and neighbours who may not have seen our latest updates, or may need some support checking their revised collection dates.

“We’ve had to make these changes as we continue to balance the resources we have across the collection rounds, and at present we can only offer a managed frequency of collections.

“While we’ve outlined our intentions, we’re working through a period of industrial action and we need to assess available resources on a daily basis – as well as balancing demand for other critical services (for example, responding to adverse weather).”

Extra support to check updated collection dates is also available by calling the Contact Centre on 01978 298989 or emailing [email protected] or you can drop into your local housing estate office.
