Wrexham held its first National Adult Safeguarding Week between 14 and 18 November to raise awareness of the need to safeguard vulnerable adults and children.

The aim of the week in Wrexham was to raise the public’s awareness of Safeguarding Adults and how everyone can play a part in supporting vulnerable people.

Safeguarding adults means protecting them from risk of harm by another person be they family, friends or professionals.

There was also be a drop in day at Contact Wrecsam based at Lord Street in Wrexham town centre and anyone concerned about their own or a friend, relative or neighbours situation could drop in and speak in confidence to a professional who was able to help and advise where appropriate.

Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We all have a role to play in raising awareness of and reporting concerns about the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

“The welfare, well-being and safety of all our residents is paramount but particular care should be paid to those most vulnerable, many becoming more vulnerable as they become older.

“We all read articles and news reports about adult safeguarding matters that sadly have come to the attention of agencies too late.

She added: “Wrexham Council works with partner agencies to raise awareness of this important issue in order to intervene and possibly prevent abuse taking place at all.”
