A speech and language therapist who has worked in Wrexham for 36 years has been celebrated for her hard work and contribution to countless families lives.

Sioned Darlington, who also worked in Flintshire, has retired after working as a speech and language therapist since 1981.

Her work and efforts were celebrated by her colleagues at her recent retirement party.

Head of Speech and Language therapy Cara Spencer said that Sioned has been an ‘important part’ in supporting ‘children with profound and multiple disabilities and their families’.

“We are so sorry to lose Sioned from our team,” said Cara.

“Sioned has been working with children and families in the Wrexham and Flintshire area since 1981 and has had an impact on so many people’s lives. Many families still return to the hospital to see her and let her know how they are doing long after her involvement with them.

“Sioned has been a very important part of North East Wales’ pre-school development team, supporting children with profound and multiple disabilities and their families.

“She was a real pioneer and was responsible for the single-handed development of the paediatric dysphagia service for children with swallowing difficulties in North East Wales for many years too, and in recent years teaching and supporting our new therapists to carry on her excellent work.

“We are really going to miss Sioned. She is so kind and supportive with everyone but we wish her well with the next chapter in her life and hope she enjoys a really happy retirement.”
