Specialist cleaning contractors at A525 in Bangor-on-Dee following HGV fire
A stretch of the A525 in Bangor-on-Dee will remains closed after a large HGV fire last week.
The road, between the junction for Whitchurch road and Hollybush lane, has been closed since the early hours of Thursday morning.
It was closed to allow a clean-up to take place amid concerns of potential contamination on the side.
Today Wrexham Council confirmed that the road closure remains in place and that a “team of specialist cleaning contractors” are removing the contents of the vehicle and associated debris.
Five days on there has still been no information publicly released on what the HGV was carrying when the fire took place, the extent of the damage caused to the road or of any risk to local residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with a spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirming today that Wrexham Council are now in charge of the recovery and security of the vehicle.
In a series of tweets, a spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: “Following the incident last week involving an articulated lorry fire at the above location, we can confirm that the road closure will be extended into this week.
“There is currently a team of specialist cleaning contractors removing the contents of the vehicle and associated debris.
“The current road closure diversion will remain in place whilst the highway and verge are cleared and repairs to the highway can be undertaken to enable the safe re opening of the road.
“May we take this opportunity to thank colleagues in North Wales Fire Service, Natural Resource Wales and the specialist cleaning contractor whose actions have mitigated any environmental and public health concerns in the locality of this incident.”
