Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted when offenders attempted to steal her dog.

The incident took place at 4.30pm on Friday February 27th when the woman was exercising a German Shepherd and a St Bernard puppy in a field off Ruthin Road, Bwlchgwyn, Wrexham.

A flatbed truck carrying scrap metal pulled up alongside the field and two youths aged about 15 got out and approached her. They offered to buy the puppy, but when they were told it was not for sale the woman was struck in the face with a snooker ball.

The youths attempted to take the puppy, but were kept at bay the German Shepherd, which was also kicked by the youths who fled empty- handed back to the truck which was being driven by a third male.

DI Neil Harrison said: “This was a vicious assault on a woman simply walking her dogs. We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a white flatbed vehicle carrying scrap and travelling on the Ruthin Road on Friday afternoon, or who may have information about this offence to call police on 101. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 55111. Crime reference number SO28039.”
