Issues facing small businesses in towns like Wrexham have been raised at a Parliamentary meeting.

Earlier this week Wrexham MP Ian Lucas joined MPs from across the country this morning at a Federation of Small Businesses meeting in the Houses of Parliament to discuss the group’s ‘Voice of Small Business Index’ report.

The report reflects the views of small businesses across the country and helps provide a picture of the challenges they face.

The meeting was also addressed by the Director General of the CBI, John Cridland.

Mr Lucas said: “Small businesses are vital across Britain – and it is important that we listen to their views. That can be on a local level – such as at Wrexham’s Town Centre Forum – but it is also important that we look at the nation level too.”

Mr Lucas went onto comment on how that issues such as business rates, access to finance and transport / communication networks are reported as concerns across Britain.

“As Wrexham’s MP, I try to work with businesses to tackle their concerns – such as pushing communications firms to tackle mobile signal problems.” added Mr Lucas.

“I also try to raise the profile of issues which affect Wrexham and need a regional response, such as making sure our transport networks are fit for the 21st century – which is why I’ve been pushing for better rail links for the town.”

Within Wrexham there has been an increase in the amount done to help promote businesses in the town centre – with the recent Small Business Saturday and free car parking, bringing thousands of visitors into the town.

Last month it was also announced that Wrexham had been successful in its bid for a ‘Healthy High Streets’ Grant, which will see the Town Centre Management Team having access to a tailor-made package of business support and expertise.
