The site of a former nightclub which was popular with locals back in the 1980s, is to go under the hammer tomorrow

Peppers, which was located on Bridge Street, had sat vacant for a number of years and was used most recently in 2013 as a Christmas Welfare Centre – providing assistance to those in need during nights out.

However the building was demolished four years ago after planning permission to redevelop the site into 10 flats over three storeys and a restaurant on the ground was granted in 2014.

At the time the plans were described as potentially acting as the “catalyst for new development on Bridge Street and Brook Street”.

As is the norm with planning applications, development is expected to start within five years of permission being granted.

Tomorrow the site will go under the hammer at Pugh Auctions with a guide price of £145,000 plus.

Details listed about the land on the Pugh Auction website, explains: “A part cleared development site consisting of a former nightclub which has the benefit of planning permission for the construction of a ground floor commercial premises and a total of ten apartments over first, second and third floors.

“Under the current plans there are provisions for six car parking spaces.

“Planning permission was granted on 12th December 2014 for the construction of a mixed use development comprising ground floor commercial unit, four x one bed apartments to the first floor, five x one bedroom apartments to the second floor and a two bedroom penthouse apartment to the third floor.”

Last month Wrexham.com reported that the site of the former Hippodrome Theatre in the town centre was also listed as for sale at tomorrow’s auction.

It is the second time in the past year that the site has been listed for sale, with the land sold for £98,000 plus fees at auction early last year.

Last autumn Wrexham.com reported that an application, had been lodged on behalf of Hindle Property Investment Ltd, in a bid to ‘re-energise and inject investment’ into the former Hippodrome Cinema.

Such plans for the site were approved in April 2019, with planning permission for a mixed use development consisting of 10 studio apartments and three one bedroom apartments and ground floor retail space given the go ahead through what seems to be a delegated decision.

The site has a a guide price of £130,000 plus when it goes to auction tomorrow.
