Members of the public are being urged to remain alert after a series of purse thefts in the town.

The warning comes after a number of elderly women had purses taken from their bags over the weekend.

Wrexham Town Inspector Vic Powell, said: “If anybody with elderly relatives has concerns about keeping bags secure and safe, we can help with that through community safety.

“There are bells for purses and bags to alert the owner is someone is trying to undo a zip.

“There is also advice and support on how to stay safe if anyone needs it.”

The below advice on how to keep your items secure has been previously issued by North Wales Police:

The following are some tips that can help you avoid becoming a victim of theft:

  •  Keep your purse in your bag and ensure the bag is zipped or kept closed while out shopping. Similarly, keep wallets out of sight and secure in a closed pocket.
  •  Never leave your bag and purse unattended in a trolley or a basket
  •  Only take out the amount of money or bank cards that you will need for your shopping trip
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the purse thefts is urged to contact officers on 101 . Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
