Carrying on from yesterdays updates we are keeping an eye on the snow situation in and around Wrexham. Thankfully today the snow has stopped, and temperatures are trying to peak above 0C, and there has been light snow and rain spotted about (You can view yesterdays Live Updates page by clicking here).

Overnight and into the early hours this morning there was much criticism of the lack of gritting with many readers sending us pictures of snow covered roads. Roads appeared to be gritted throughout the day however the second wave of snow that appeared from 6:30pm onwards re-covered roads and froze, causing problems.

We were informed of issues with gritters themselves, some skidding and slipping in the icy conditions. After our comments on Wrexham.com the Council tweeted saying “Our gritters will be out again this evening. Please take extra care on the roads tomorrow morning.”

We posted a picture of Ruabon Road roundabout on our live updates page as of about 5:30pm last night, however by evening it had snowed further creating this hazardous surface:

Throughout the night gritters were spotted on major and minor routes around town, we had reams of feedback however Tim Evans summed up the situation as of this morning saying “Main roads seem pretty clear….it’s just all the side roads that are a nightmare!”

Traffic on the roads overnight and throughout today seems minimal as people have heeded warnings not to make journeys that are not essential, however the lack of traffic on roads does mean that grit that has been laid is not as effective.

There has been positive feedback as council gritters make it away from the main roads to minor routes and roads:
