Hundreds of pounds have been raised for Gresford and Marford playgroups thanks to Santa and his team of elves.

Residents in Pandy, Gresford, Marford and Rossett were visited by Santa Claus and his magical sleigh, which was playing tunes for all to hear, last Friday.

Santa, his elves and even the Grinch stopped to talk to onlookers and handed out sweets to children – which were kindly provided by the Golden Lion in Rossett.

After touring the streets the team took to the local pubs for some much needed Christmas refreshments and some more donations.

Cllr Andy Atkinson, also known as Santa Claus said :”I’m so grateful to everyone that donated cash and came out to see us in the rain, SG Estates for so generously match-funding every penny raised,

“The Golden Lion for the sweets and to my driver James Drake and my elves and Grinch from Marford Playgroup.

“It’s fantastic to see the happy smiles on the kids faces and spread a bit of Christmas cheer!”

£400 was raised on the night and this was doubled by SG Estates meaning each playgroup has received £400 each.

Steve Griffin, director of SG Estates said: “I offered to match the money raised as it’s for a great local cause and we’re a local business that’s very much part of the community here.

“It was particularly nice to welcome Santa to our new estate The Pavilions where many of our families were able to enjoy the festive visit. Thanks to all the team.”
