Concerns over safety have been raised by several Wrexham residents after a number of streetlights on an estate stopped working.

Over the past few weeks a number of streetlights in the Caia Park area have failed to work, causing frustration among residents and leaving many streets in total darkness.

Louise Haggarty got in touch with Wrexham.com regarding the street light issues, saying: “I’m just wondering why I pay my taxes. The street lights on Trevenna Way, Archers Way, Cheshire View and back of Holt Road (Spring Lodge area) have been out for a number of weeks now.

“Wrexham County Borough Council have been contacted about this and the reply we were given was ‘it will be done with due course’. Will this be the answer WCBC will give if someone gets attacked, falls or has an accident?”

Donna Powell added that it is ‘lethal’ without having the lights on.

We have also been told of issues on Dean Road and the areas around the Greyhound Public House.

Commenting on the initial Facebook thread last night, Plaid Cymru’s Parliamentary candidate Carrie Harper said: “Same issue brought up at Caia community council at last meeting about areas of Queensway ward as well. WCBC contracts out maintenance of the lights, the contract states the company need to repair lights within a certain amount of time once reported but have heard several complaints this isn’t happening. Community council wrote to WCBC about it the other week but will raise it again at next meeting, it’s not good enough

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council said: “Our engineer is currently on site at Archers Way and has reported that he has carried out a repair to get all 3 lights operational. We are hopeful this repair will prove successful, however we are contacting Scottish Power as we have concerns over the condition of the mains feed to the column.

“The engineer is now inspecting the other faulty street lights in the area and unless these are affected by a mains fault we envisage the street lights will be operational today.”
