Residents of Wrexham are being urged to remain vigilant following reports of a ‘rogue trader’ garden incident in the area recently.

Two people have approached an address and told the occupier that work was needed to cut down a hedge following a complaint received. It transpired that there was no complaint and the individuals responsible had cut a few branches before leaving them at the location and made away with £50 from the occupier.

Advice from Trading Standards is always say ‘No’ to rogue traders.

Uninvited visitors to your door can call all year round and you may be contacted by rogue traders offering to carry out gardening work, tree surgery, or other household repairs.

Advice is avoid responding to leaflets which offer gardening or other services unless you are sure of the identity of the trader.

You are advised to look for:

• a name (name of trader or limited company);
• full trading address;
• a “land based” telephone number NOT a Mobile or 0800 number.
• the trader must have a licence to dispose of the garden refuse legally otherwise it is likely to be fly tipped on the side of the road or in a hedgerow. Please ensure that you check that they are licensed.

If you receive an unsolicited visit or a leaflet and you would like further advice please contact: Citizens Advice Consumer helpline: 03454 040 506 or North Wales Police non-emergency line: 101
