The first residents of Wales & West Housing’s development Cefn y Nant, on Rivulet Road, Wrexham, have just moved into their ‘life-changing’ new homes.

Cefn y Nant, a development of 55 new homes, is part of a £17m building programme across two sites in the town by Wales & West Housing in partnership with Wrexham County Borough Council.

Paul Butler is among the first residents to move into his new home on Cefn y Nant.  Previously Paul, 31, lived in the old Hightown flats that were demolished in 2011, and he has now returned to the area with partner Sarah Jones and Joshua, their five week old baby son.

“Our new home is fantastic,” said Paul. “It’s more than we could have wished for. We’re so happy that we get to give Josh a good start in life, in a nice home. This move has been life-changing.”

Anne Hinchey, Chief Executive of Wales & West Housing, said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to offer Paul the opportunity to bring up his new family in a high quality, affordable home. He is just one of many new residents who will enjoy similar benefits from this fantastic new development.

“These homes are the result of a strong working partnership between ourselves and Wrexham County Borough Council and the Welsh Government. The need for more affordable homes has never been greater and our vision at Wales & West Housing is to achieve strong, sustainable growth to make a difference to people’s lives, homes and communities. Cefn y Nant is another great example of how we can do this.”

Cllr Mark Pritchard, Lead Member for Housing said: “Works on the Rivulet Road are progressing well and I’m delighted to welcome the first residents to Cefn-y-Nant.

“This development is a great example of how, by working in partership, we can produce good quality, affordable homes for the people of Wrexham. I would like to thank staff at both Wales and West and Wrexham Council, as well as the Welsh Government, for all their hard work and support in ensuring that this project came to fruition.”

In addition to Cefn y Nant, a further 92 homes are being built on the site of the former Hightown flats as well as a new Community and Medical Resource Centre. Local contractors Anwyl Construction are due to complete all works in the summer of 2014, eight local young people are currently benefitting from apprenticeships resulting from the works, and overall the development has been estimated to be worth more than £50m to the local economy.
