Replacement providers for two bus routes have been announced following the withdrawal of services from a budget provider last month.

Arriva Buses Wales has registered its intention with the Traffic Commissioner to provide a replacement service for both the 42 (Wrexham – Hightown) and 44 (Wrexham – Barkers Lane) services from October 28th.

The two routes were amongst several affected across Wrexham after Skiers Lodge Limited – which was operating easyCoach locally – announced it was to cancel services in the area from September 9th.

It came just over two months after the company launched in Wrexham with the promise of cheaper fares for customers.

In an information report published by Wrexham Council ahead of tomorrow’s executive board, it is noted that Arriva Buses Wales are proposed to introduce and hourly daytime service (Monday – Saturday) for Garden Village and Barkers Lane as part of the 44 service.

An hourly service between Monday and Saturday to Stockwell Grove is also expected to be in place by the end of the month as part of the 42 service.

However as a result of Arriva taking over the two services, Wrexham Council has announced changes to its Town Link route – which was introduced last year to provide transport for passengers on key routes in and around town centre areas.

Wrexham Council say it “cannot continue to operate supported services which mirror those
provided by commercial local bus operators”.

Instead route and timetable changes are expected to be introduced for the two services
