Remembrance service takes place in Wrexham to commemorate D-Day
A remembrance service took place in Wrexham this morning to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
In attendance at the ceremony, which took place at the Memorial Hall in town, was Ted Edwards – who is one of only two Normandy Veterans in Wrexham.
Leader of Wrexham Council, Cllr Mark Pritchard and Armed Forces Champion, Cllr David Griffiths were also in attendance.
Known as the beginning of the end of the Second World War, more than 150,000 allied troops landed on Normandy’s beaches on this day in 1944.
75 years ago today the D-Day landings secured the beginning of the end of WWII. We thank those remaining veterans for their bravery and courage on that day and all our servicemen past and present who have always put their country first. pic.twitter.com/GgIQaF2EGk

There has also been praise by residents for poppies which have been planted on roundabouts and grass verges across the county borough.
A spokesperson for Wrexham Council, said: “It is a partnership project to promote biodiversity with North Wales Wildlife Trust supported by the roundabout sponsorship we receive for roundabouts in Wrexham.
“We planted these last year at two sites in Gwersyllt and Watery Road roundabouts and they have re-seeded again.
“We also have a small swathe of wildflowers on the roundabout by Asda and one on the industrial estate.
