Red Arrows due in area as they use Hawarden Airport as base for Rhyl Airshow
The Rhyl Air Show takes place this Bank Holiday weekend, with the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight set to perform aerial displays across both days of the show.
The award-winning air show is fast becoming North Wales’s most significant free seafront event.
The 2023 show will feature spectacular aerial displays, land-based attractions, and entertainment on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August 2023.
The world-renowned Red Arrows have once again selected Hawarden Airport as their operational base for their Rhyl Air Show displays.
In previous years, the ‘Reds’ have made memorable appearances at Hawarden Airport, attracting significant crowds and traffic around the airfield perimeter.
One of the highlights from last year was the particularly stunning ‘spaghetti break’ manoeuvre executed by the team as they made their approach into Hawarden.

Chocks Away, the popular onsite diner at Hawarden Airport, shared the Red Arrows’ expected schedule for the air show.
According their information: On Saturday, 26th August, the Red Arrows are set to arrive at Hawarden at 13:48, depart for their display at 16:19, and return by 16:57.
The following day, Sunday 27th August, sees them departing from Hawarden at 16:19, returning at 16:57, and finally departing back to their base at 19:00.
The air show will also feature the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Hawarden-built Lancaster bomber, PA474. It is one of only two airworthy Lancasters remaining. It rolled off the production line at the Vickers Armstrong Broughton factory at Hawarden Airfield on 31 May 1945.
Additionally, the Hawarden-based Strikemaster pair, another highlight of British aviation, has been confirmed for both days of the air show.

As is always the case, weather can play a huge part part when it comes to air shows, currently forecast point towards light rain showers across the two days and a moderate breeze.
Those gearing up for this weekend’s spectacle might want to pack their raincoats and umbrellas.
