Wrexham Library is attempting to set a record based off of the Guinness Book of World Records – to see how many children can fit into the Library in one half hour period.

Every year across the UK during the summer holiday Libraries encourage children to improve their Literacy skills by completing a Summer Reading Challenge.

The idea was set up by The Reading Agency and consists of a challenge whereby children are encouraged to read six books over the holiday period and are given a series of stickers relating to a particular topic for their achievements.

To encourage the children who attend our record breaking attempt children will be offered the chance to meet other successful record breakers in Wrexham Library on Monday 20th July from 11.00am – 11.30am. Sasha Kenny a Guinness World Record holder of Hoolanation, is confirmed to be a guest in attendance during the event.

The library will also have a few surprises in store including areas where children can take a selfie with life-sized posters of:

– Lowest roadworthy car

– Tallest living horse

– Tallest living man

Shan Cooper, Children’s Librarian at Wrexham Library, said: “We in Wrexham Library are thrilled to be hosting our annual event, to recruit children into this year’s Summer Reading Challenge ‘Record Breakers’. We challenge all children to make a date in their diary and visit us on Monday at 11:00am. The more the merrier, please bring along your library card so we can sign you up for this year’s reading challenge. On Monday between 11.00 and 11.30 all children will be issued with a raffle ticket, one lucky child will win a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, Wi-Fi, 8GB.”

Cllr Hugh Jones, lead member for Communities and Partnerships, said of the event: “This attempt to set a record for the town by encouraging children to visit Wrexham Library and participate in the Summer Reading Challenge is one I whole-heartedly endorse. In addition to raising awareness of our Libraries to children, it also proves that Libraries can be fun places for children to visit.”

If you are available to attend please could you contact the library team by email on [email protected] or alternatively if you would like to discuss arrangements, please phone and ask to speak to anyone on the Junior Team on 01978 292090.

If you would not be available but would be prepared to allow us to display your child’s certificates here in the Library that too would be appreciated. Again, please contact the library team for more information.
