Enterprising young pupils at Ysgol Plas Coch are aiming to raise £1,600 to buy defibrillators by becoming entrepreneurs and running their own business.

The Year 6 pupils have set up the company called “Codi Calon Cymru” and have ensured initial finance by selling shares to parents and school staff. The money made from the shares will be ploughed into a Christmas Fayre, to be held at the school on 18 December, the profits from that event will then be put towards more money making events in the new year.

Class teacher, Geraint Jones, said: “We wanted to look at new ways of improving pupils’ numeracy skills and this innovative idea was one that really appealed to them. It is proving very successful and the children have an excellent prospect of achieving their goal alongside improving their skills.”

Osian Jones, headteacher, who is pictured above receiving his Share Certificate, said “The children have shown great enthusiasm for this business and I wish them luck as they plan their Christmas Fayre.”

The aim is to buy two defibrillators, one for Ysgol Plas Coch and one for their sister school Ysgol Bro Alun.
