Members of the public are being encouraged to help keep Wrexham’s parks and green spaces tidy as part of the new ‘Caru Cymru’ campaign.

Over the past 12 months more residents have reported that they’re unhappy with the areas where they live and exercise due to litter and dog fouling.

As well as spoiling people’s enjoyment of our environment, litter can threaten wildlife and habitats.

Run by Keep Wales Tidy, ‘Caru Cymru’ urges residents to keep their local area Wales tidy and litter free.

There are a number of ways people can get involved and help keep their communities tidy, including:

  • Always take your litter home or put it in a bin.
  • Always pick up after your dog has fouled.
  • Organise a community litter pick – Caru Cymru can help you with this and you can find out more online.
  • Report any graffiti or fly-tipping online
  • Don’t get caught out with ‘a man in a van’ offer. Anyone removing your waste must have a Waste Carrier’s License. Always ask to see it before you pay someone to take it away.
  • If you do come across fly-tipping please don’t attempt to open any bags or move it. Report it to Wrexham Council.

Recently members of the executive board approved plans to issue fines of up to £400 to anyone caught fly-tipping.

Councillor David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport said: “We all value and appreciate our communities, and we’re calling on everyone to make a difference by helping to keep them clean and tidy.

“There’s lots we can all do, and as long as we do it safely, we should all be looking to do our bit to prevent littering becoming a nuisance.

“The Household Recycling Centres are all open and any excess waste should be taken to one of them.

“Cleaning up litter and fly-tipping also uses up valuable time and resources. When you look at the scale of the county borough, it’s time and resources that we don’t have…so please do your bit and support Caru Wrecsam and Caru Cymru.”
