A hotel in Wrexham could be extended to accommodate more bedrooms if proposals are given the go ahead.

In an application submitted to Wrexham Council, it is proposed that the Premier Inn on Chester Road in Gresford is extended by 22 rooms.

The proposed scheme would see the building extended across part of the existing Premier Inn car park.

Within the application’s Design and Access Statement it notes the reasons for the proposals are due to: “Demand for further hotel accommodation and therefore our objective is to increase the capacity of the hotel by another 22 bedrooms in order to cater for this proven demand.”

Design wise the extension of the building will be in keeping with the existing building, with the design aiming to achieve a ‘safe, predictable and convenient environment for all the building occupants and users of the new bedrooms’.

No major changes will be made to the current car park, that serves both the Premier Inn and restaurant opposite. However some car parking spaces would be lost as the site is reconfigured.

The Design and Access Statement adds: “By extending this hotel, as opposed to constructing a new-build one on another site, offers Premier Inn a far more sustainable increase in capacity and also maximises the potential of the site.”

The proposals will go before a Planning Committee at a later date.
