A planning application to put a Costa Coffee in the old Jessops store has been submitted.

The proposals request a change of use for the disused property on Island Green, stating ‘It is envisaged that it will be used as a coffee shop by Costa Coffee’.

The 202sqm property sits between Carphone Warehouse and Poundland, and has been vacant since Jessops went into administration earlier this year. However a few weeks ago Wrexham.com received a tweet informing us that they had spotted people looking around the disused property.

It is  proposed that no adjustments will be made to the already level store interior. Outside a number of table and chairs are placed at the front of the potential coffee shop.

In the application it it stated that “The proposed development will retain existing access arrangements and will ensure that the site is easily accessible for users.”

While there is a smaller Costa Coffee located in the Odeon Cinema on Eagles Meadow, there is currently nothing of similar usage on Island Green.

If the application is successful, it could bring up to eight new jobs to the town centre.
