Pupils from three local primary schools have helped to design new road safety signage.

Almost 270 children from Ysgol Yr Hafod Johnstown, I D Hooson, and Ysgol Maes y Mynydd took part in the competition, which was organised by Rhos Community Council.

The pupils were asked to design new road safety signs, which will replace the existing signage outside of the three schools.

Chair Cllr Sue Hallard, Bernie Clarke and David A Bithell from Rhos Community Council, along with PCSO Emily, took part in picking the winners from each of the schools.

The three winners will each receive £20 and sweets will be donated to all children who took part when they return to school in September.

PCSO Emily, who has been liaising with the local schools, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for all of the local schools to become involved in designing a speed sign to be placed outside of their school in order to emphasise the speed limit.

“I would like to thank everyone that entered, we were all really impressed at the number of entries and the amount of time and effort that had been put into creating them. It was really difficult to just pick one winner for each school.

“The winning entries look great and are a brilliant way of encouraging safe and careful driving.’

Cllr David A Bithell, said: “Members of the Community Council have supported the initiative which supports a reduction in speeding in our communities.

“It’s really encouraging to see the large number of children who took part and it was difficult to pick the winners as there was so many great designs.

“A big thank you to our local schools and children who all took part.”
