A village Post Office is set to re-open in a new location this summer, it has been confirmed.

The future of the facility was thrown into doubt last year after it was announced that McColl’s, on Ruabon High Street, was to close.

McColl’s, which housed the village’s only Post Office counter, was among the company’s 1,164 branches taken over by Morrisons. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

But the supermarket giant identified 132 loss-making stores to shut for good – which included Ruabon. ‌

A campaign to save the service was launched amid concerns that the area would be left without the vital resources.‌

Applications opened at the end of 2023 for a new location to house the service, with the Post Office today confirming that it plans to return to the village at the nearby R‌uabon Discount Stores, on New High Street.‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This will restore services with a Post Office counter alongside the retail counter of the general household retail store from Friday 11 August at 1pm.

The Post Office opening hours will be: Monday to Friday: 8am – 6pm; Saturday: 9am – 5.30pm; Sunday: 10am – 4pm.

This will provide 64 hours and 30 minutes of Post Office service a week.

The same range of Post Office products and services will continue to be available.

Carol Williams, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to soon be restoring a Post Office to this area as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.

“The branch’s opening hours will make it convenient for customers to visit.”

A spokesperson added: “We keen to restore this branch to the area as soon as possible, so we have decided to go ahead with our plans.

“The opportunity to give feedback will close on 25 July.

“Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 594614.

“Submissions can also be made via email to [email protected], by post to Freepost YOUR COMMENTS, or by telephone 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.”
