Policing operation planned to help people enjoy busy ‘Festive Friday’ weekend
Police have a large operation planned this weekend to ensure those out enjoying the town’s night time economy while celebrating the Christmas period can do so safely.
Inspector Vic Powell detailed the policing plans for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which are extended this year due to the slightly odd time Christmas Day lands.
Inspector Powell added, “Please, if you come into town, come to town enjoy yourself. Please don’t overdo it.
“Please don’t make yourself vulnerable or open to criminality, or indeed or committing criminality, because there will be a really good policing response to help people enjoy the evening. So just please drink in moderation, be sensible enjoy yourself and go home safely.”
Inspector Powell also explained that work had been taking place with Nightsafe, an organisation of local licensees, to ensure a consistent approach for the weekend, adding: “If you are going to ‘preload’ before coming in to town, please don’t. Do not come in to town drunk as you will not be allowed into premises. We don’t want people coming in drunk as skunks, because you will not be allowed in premises!”
Alex Jones, who runs The Bank Bar in the town centre, told us: “Festive Friday, or busier than a normal Friday, will this year see a partnership between bar/pub operators, police, Red Cross, CCTV and street pastors. This partnership will help make sure that people enjoying Wrexham town centre will do safely and responsibly.”
Inspector Powell added, “We just we just need people to be sensible and go home safely rather than waking up in a police cell, or casualty or lost.”
