The possibility of the police station relocating from Wrexham town centre was raised during the Town Centre Forum Meeting yesterday.

One of the issues raised about the police station moving away from the town centre was its link to the Magistrates Court, as currently there is direct access from the station through to the courtrooms.

A second issue that was discussed was the risk of the Magistrates Court losing out to Mold Courts, if the police station was situated in a location like Llay.

We have spoken to a resident from Llay previously about the subject, who told us that there had been rumours around the estate that the police station could potentially be moving there.

Speaking about the police station potentially relocating, Cllr Neil Rogers said: “They are looking to relocate, however no where has been found.

“There needs to be a central location regardless of whether it’s based in Llay, the Industrial Estate or wherever. There needs to be a desk there for people to go to.”

Town Centre Forum Chairman Kevin Critchley added, we assume sarcastically, it would be a shame to lose such a ‘beautiful building’.

North Wales Police have told us “The long term aim is to have new facilities”.

When asked about time frames of a move they said “At the moment no decision has been made as to where and when this will happen , but regardless of any new Divisional HQ located in the area, there would also be a police station in Wrexham town.”

Minutes after we published this article we were tweeted:

The Wrexham police station in the town centre has become an iconic part of the skyline, as shown in the image above. Would you miss the police station if it were demolished? Where do you think would be a good site for a new police station? Let us know in this forum thread
