A man has been charged after assaulting a police officer in Wrexham town centre.

The incident took place at 4:30am on Sunday 16th July on Regent Street.

Officers arrested the man for a public order offence following reports he was shouting and swearing in the area. During the course of the arrest the man assaulted an officer.

The injuries were not serious and the man was subsequently charged with assaulting a police officer.

Town District Inspector said Paul Wycherley said: “As the public would expect anyone who assaults a police officer doing their duty trying to make sure the peace of Wrexham is maintained, will be dealt with via the criminal justice system.”
