Local officers are investigating reports that a cat was killed in Caia last night.

A widely shared account of the incident has been posted on the popular ‘Lost and Found Pets’ Wrexham Facebook group:

Sadly deceased cat found Queensway playing fields.
Black and grey but some markings are not visible due to burnt fur/flesh and lost fur where tape has been removed.
Found this morning with fireworks strapped to it with gaffer tape. Is not a pretty sight but probably still identifiable to owner if they feel able to.

This afternoon local police have said: “Reports to the police that a pet cat has sadly died after being strapped to a firework in the Queensway area.

“NWP take reports like this very seriously, please try and help us find who was responsible.”

“Please call 101 or CrimeStoppers reference Y163308. #animalcruelty #familypet ”

North Wales Police and the RSPCA have been approached for comment or further information.

A a dispersal order is in place in Caia Park until midnight tonight “due to local youths causing anti-social behaviour by setting fireworks off and lighting fires”.

Last night police appealed to local parents: “Please ensure you know where your children are and what they are doing.”
