Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Wrexham AFC have had a a good, good week – following victories on the USA tour.

The comments came when we attended a visit at Networld Sports, along with the Daily Post, as North Wales based media were invited although not all bothered to attend. The Prime Minister was ‘rattling through’ and spared a few minutes to take some very quick questions. The PM said he was having a ‘very good Wrexham week having seen Ryan on Monday, it has been great’.

Following that we asked what that conversation entailed, with Mr Sunak replying, “We talked about Wrexham! We talked about Wrexham, and the impact it’s had on the community and just more generally his plans to do more in the UK. I think that’s exciting.

“I think the UK is a fantastic place for people to invest and to grow businesses. You saw that the other week with the announcement from Tata of billions of pounds of investment in a new giga factory. 1000s of jobs that are going to create across the supply chain, huge vote of confidence in the UK.

“Part of my job is to talk to international investors and companies and attract that investment into the UK and we’re doing a good job of that.

Co-chairman Ryan had posted the below image from his meeting earlier in the week, noting he was “hoping to see even more film work head to Wales”, so we asked about how that could happen.

The Prime Minister wasn’t to be drawn on the detail, “You wouldn’t expect me to get into the exact details of a private conversation but Ryan has demonstrated his commitment not just to Wrexham but I think a willingness to to invest and do more in the UK more generally.

“Part of my job is to attract investment from around the world, because that creates jobs for people here at home, it creates opportunities – and everyone here in Wrexham can clearly see what a difference it has made.

“It was nice to talk about that and celebrate that success.

“What a great week – because I think when I had seen him Wrexham had just beaten LA Galaxy, since then they have beaten Man United. It’s been a good, good week.”

Top pic: Wrexham’s MP Sarah Atherton was at Networld Sports for the visit, presenting the PM with a Wrexham AFC scarf. Wrexham’s MP added, “We heard about his vision and his determination to deliver on his five pledges, whilst also addressing the major failings of the Welsh Labour Government in Cardiff, with regards to healthcare, housing and investment in our road infrastructure. Wrexham is on the cusp of a very exciting future”
