An ‘adult shop’ in Wrexham town centre could be converted into 14-bedroom HMO if planning approval is granted.

In an application submitted to Wrexham Council it has been proposed that the shop, on 6 Yorke Street is changed from its current A1 retail space to a House Multiple Occupancy (HMO).

If approved the property would be converted into a 14-bedroom HMO, spanning across four floors.

Details about the proposed layout of the development are provided in the application’s design and access statement, which notes that two en-suite bedrooms will be located in the basement of the property.

It is also proposed that the ground floor is converted into three en-suite bedrooms with a kitchen, with four en-suite bedrooms and a shared kitchen on the first floor. A further five en-suite bedrooms would be provided on the second floor.

Externally there would be alterations to the property to replace the glass frontage of the shop and its signs with bricks and windows to match what is already on the building.

Explaining why the application has been submitted, the design and access statement adds: “The purpose of accommodation such as this is to ensure that communities are balanced and that lower cost and flexible housing needs are met.”

The proposals are expected to be considered by Wrexham Council’s planning committee at a later date
