There was confusion earlier this morning after what had been reported by some as ‘fly-tipping’ turned out to be part of a community clear-up.

Early this morning there were reports that a large bags of garden waste and plastic bags had been ‘fly-tipped’ near the HMRC offices on Ellice Way.

However a few hours after the waste was removed it was pointed out on Twitter that the bags could have been part of a community clear-up nearby which took place over the weekend.

Gateway Church Representatives have been in touch to say that the waste was from a community clean-up on Berse Road that took place on Saturday with a local councillor.

We’re told that the waste had been left there with prior arrangement with the council, however when contacted them this morning, Lead Member for Environment and Transport Cllr Bithell, said: “Our teams have cleared the roundabout affected and also checked the surrounding area for any further waste.

“Anyone who spots instances of fly-tipping may call Contact Wrexham on 01978 29 89 89, and provide the location of any waste spotted.”

Cllr Phil Wynn has since posted on the Wrexham.com Forums: “On Saturday morning members of the Gateway Church congregation and Maesgwyn residents cleared the local playing field and hedgerow of fly tipping and an unhealthy build up of rubbish.

“To those that took part I would like to thank for volunteering their time to help make a difference to the look of their own community.

“It is something that we will be looking to repeat again, as everyone enjoyed the morning.

“The rubbish was bagged and left at the Berse Road end of the Maesgwyn field, with the prior agreement of WCBC Streetscene, who were to remove the rubbish on the Monday in their caged van.”

Last week there were also reports of fly-tipping in Alyn Waters with a mattress found discarded on the Llay side of the park on Friday afternoon.
