Members of the public are being urged to remain vigilant over fake TV Licensing emails.

The warning, from Action Fraud, comes after more than 6,000 reports of the scam in the last two weeks.

The emails claim that the recipient’s TV License is about to expire, or that there was an issue with their latest payment.

Inside the emails are links that lead to genuine-looking websites that are designed to steal your personal information.

Action Fraud have issued the following advice on how to deal with suspicious messages:

  • If you have doubts about a message, contact the organisation directly
  • Don’t use the numbers or address in the message, use the details from their official website
  • Your bank (or any other official source) will never ask you to supply personal information via email

If you have suspicious email forward it to the suspicious email reporting service at [email protected]

Your reports have led to the removal of 268,000 scam sites so far.
