A team of North Wales Police officers and staff will be swapping their working boots for hiking ones as they prepare to walk up the highest mountain in England and Wales for charity – in the middle of the night.

In the early hours of tomorrow morning, the group will be walking up Snowdon in the dark to raise money for Hafal, Care of Police Survivors (COPS) and The Police Treatment Centres.

Sergeant Tom Prytherch, from St Asaph Custody, has organised the event as part of his wider ‘Clwb Cerdded Cymraeg’ initiative which encourages police officers, staff, volunteers, friends and family members to get some exercise by walking and to proactively chat through the medium of Welsh.

“The Clwb Cerdded Cymraeg has been running for a couple of years now and is a great opportunity for those who want to practice and use their Welsh in the company of other learners and Welsh speakers in a supportive atmosphere,” explained Sgt Prytherch.

“We thought we’d use this as an opportunity to organise a charity trek up Snowdon to raise money for three very worthwhile causes.

“We will be setting off at 1am on Thursday and will aim to reach the summit in order to see the sunrise.

Hafal is the official North Wales Police charity for this year and is Wales’ leading charity which support people with mental health issues as well as their carers.

COPS (Care Of Police Survivors) is dedicated to helping families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty to rebuild their lives.

The Police Treatment Centres allow serving and retired police officers to receive treatment following an illness or injury with the aim of assisting their return to better health.

He added: “These charities all provide essential services and support for the communities of North Wales and we would love your help to raise as much as we can to help them to continue their work.”

Anybody wishing to donated to the cause can do so via the fundraising page here.
