A north Wales Member of the Senedd has praised the work of staff at Wrexham’s special care baby unit (SCBU).

Sam Rowlands, Welsh Conservative MS for the region, recently had the chance to see first-hand how Occupational Therapists help neonatal services at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

At Wrexham’s SCBU babies are cared for by a team of medical staff led by a Paediatric Consultant and a team of specially trained nursing staff including, OTs, health care support workers, neonatal outreach, speech and language therapist, physiotherapist and many other professionals.

Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the work of Occupational Therapists across North Wales said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the Special Care Baby Unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and meet with Occupational Therapist staff.

“It was great to be able to discuss neonatal services and the challenges OTs face across the health service.

“I also had the chance to see the work being carried out in the specialist unit by healthcare professionals which was extremely impressive and informative.

“We all know our NHS here in Wales is under tremendous pressure, yet our hard working staff continue to go above and beyond to help patients.”
