A north Wales politician is encouraging businesses and property owners in Wrexham to apply for funding to help improve their premises.

Grants of up to £30,000 are available to help enhance building frontages and bring vacant city centre commercial floor space back into use. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Wrexham Council is supporting the project with £157k of Transforming Towns – a Welsh Government in initiative designed to help regenerate town centres, ensuring they continue to play a key role in local economies and communities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Successful grants can be used to help fund external works to building frontages, including: ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

  • Shopfronts
  • Improved display windows
  • Signage improvements
  • Windows and doors
  • Roofs and chimneys
  • Rendering and structural works
  • Internal works – and improvements to energy efficiency (e.g. enhanced insulation) – may also be eligible alongside a comprehensive package of external improvements. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Sam Rowlands, Conservative Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, is encouraging business and commercial property owners to apply for a share of the grant funding.

Mr Rowlands said: “As Shadow Minister for Local Government and Chair of the Cross-Party Group on Tourism, I am happy to support any moves to improve our towns and city centres and delighted to see funding being made available.

Member of the Senedd Sam Rowlands

“We all know how popular Wrexham, has become lately as a destination of choice thanks largely due to the heroics of the local football team and it is great to see more being done to attract people to the area. This will also help boost tourism in North Wales.

“Wrexham is Wales’s newest city and has such a lot to offer with an award winning university and being chosen to host the National Eisteddfod in 2025. I would urge shops and commercial property owners to apply for a grant.”

Grants are available to retail and commercial property owners with premises in the city centre. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Applications are also welcome from leaseholders with seven years or more remaining on their tenancy and written consent from their landlord to carry out the proposed improvements. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Works must be complete by February 28, 2024 ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

You can find more information, including how to apply, on Wrexham Council’s website. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
