North Wales charity makes top national awards shortlist for its dementia support services

A North Wales charity which provides support to people living with dementia and their carers has been shortlisted for a top national award.

Carers Trust North Wales, which has provided a Dementia Support Service across the region for the past five years, has been selected as a finalist for the second year running at the prestigious National Dementia Care Awards in the ‘Best Dementia Team’ category.

The unique service, commissioned by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), offers a range of personalised support to people who have been diagnosed with dementia and their families, including training, emotional support and social activities.

Alison Jones, chief executive officer at Carers Trust North Wales, said: “We are thrilled to be finalists two years running. The team is completely dedicated and committed to the goal that no-one living in North Wales is left unsupported after they receive a diagnosis of dementia.”

The National Dementia Care Awards is an annual event organised by The Journal of Dementia Care, a multidisciplinary journal for all professional staff working with people with dementia, in hospitals, nursing and residential care homes, day units and the community.

The awards were created to recognise the very best people in the dementia care sector, whose exceptional work and contributions make better, person-centred care a reality.

Gwenno Davies, project leader, added: “I am so pleased that the service has been recognised for a second time, and I am so proud of the team.

“Since the service started in October 2016, we have supported over 3,000 people living with dementia in North Wales which is a huge achievement.”
