Nominations For Wrexham’s 2016 Sports Awards Now Open!

Do you know someone who deserves to have their hard work and sporting achievements recognised? If so, nominations are now open for this year’s Wrexham County Borough Sports Awards.

The prestigious event which celebrates local sporting achievements will return to Wrexham this autumn.

During the awards ceremony junior sportsmen and women, coaches, schools, clubs and teams to all be recognised for their hard work and accomplishments.

This year’s Sports Awards will take place at the Brymbo Sports and Social Complex (College Hill, Brymbo, Tanyfron LL11 5TF) on Thursday, November 3rd, with nominations closing on Friday, September 23rd.

Nominations are encouraged from individuals, sports clubs, schools and volunteers to ensure that the outstanding work and athletic achievement of local people is recognised by the whole community.

Awards will be made in the following categories:

Junior and Senior Sports Personality of the Year
Disability Sports Personality of the Year
Service to Sport
Junior and Senior Volunteer of the Year
School Achievement (Primary or Secondary)
Coach of the Year
Club of the Year
Team of the Year

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities and Partnerships, said: “I’m very pleased to see the Sports Awards return.

“The achievements of young athletes, community sporting groups and hardworking coaches and trainers should always be due proper recognition, and events such as these can show our gratitude as a council and as a community to these people.

“The recent silver medal success of Vicky Thornley in Rio – as well as the past successes of fellow Olympic rowers Tom James MBE and Chris Bartley – shows that Wrexham can nurture Olympic-level talents, and I hope many of those recognised at the 2016 Sports Awards go on to be the Olympians of the future.

“I hope we receive as many nominations as possible.”

Closing date for nominations is 12 noon on Friday 23rd September.
