With winter on its way, today sees the return of Wrexham Council’s #wxmgrit and Wrexham weather updates.

Last winter Wrexham Council and Wrexham Travel kept Wrexhamites up to day with temperatures and gritting by using the hash tag #wxmgrit whenever the gritters were about in Wrexham. Due to last year’s particularly milder winter, there was not as much need for gritting in Wrexham – however updates were still provided in more rural areas – such as Glyn Ceiriog.

The weather will be monitored daily from 1st October 2014 through to mid April 2015, however we have been told by a Wrexham Council that more ‘formal gritting’ arrangements are in place for a 22 week period commencing November 1st 2014.

Arrangements are in place to deal with any wintery conditions experienced outside of the 22 week period but these occurrences are unusual and are dealt with as required.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council told us: “We maintain a maximum salt stock level of 8000 tonnes which is currently stocked in its three strategically located depots. The majority of this rocksalt was retained from the end of the last winter period with only a minimal amount of restocking taking place during the summer months.

“There have been no reductions in the winter service provision for the approaching winter season.”

The MET Office is predicting the milder weather will continue over the next few days, with temperatures expected to get slightly cooler by Saturday.

For those wanting to keep up to date with local weather / gritting updates for Wrexham simply follow the #wxmgrit hash tag on Twitter.
