Wrexham Council are appealing for a historic road sign to be returned by whoever has stolen it.

UPDATE: Eileen has told us she had notified the Council when the sign was down and lying in the road around two weeks ago, they told her it would be collected. Later that day the sign had disappeared, “I reported to the main desk and streetscene that it was cut down and badly damaged about 2 weeks ago and they said someone was going to collect it. That afternoon it was gone so I presumed the council had collected it”.

Original information below…

The signpost, pictured above, is a Grade II listed sign and is an unusual surviving example of a 19th Century locally cast-iron sign-post.

The Council say it was stolen recently from Hafod Road and it marks a by-road which runs from Rhostyllen (past Bersham Colliery) to Middle Sontley.

The signpost has three distinct fingers indicating directions to Ruabon, Rhostyllen and Wrexham, and it was been repaired and redecorated only last year.

The incident has been reported to the police.

The Council says: “We won’t be asking any questions – we just want it back. It’s part of Wrexham County Borough’s heritage, and we’d like it where it belongs.”

“If you know where it is please contact 01978 298760.”
