Rowlands Pharmacy has introduced a new, safe and convenient way for patients across Wrexham to remember to take multiple prescription medicines.

PilPouch – which will be rolled out to patients at eight Rowlands branches across Wrexham – is the pharmacy chain’s new tailored patient prescription service which sees a patient’s personal prescription packaged in a box of clearly labelled pouches.

Each pouch of medication within the box outlines the specific day, time, dosage and further medication safety details – dispensing the medicine in the order in which the patient should take it. Designed to be portable – patients can also discreetly take their medication, wherever they are.

Although PilPouch pouches can accommodate multiple medications and flexible treatment lengths, they are only suitable for solid dosage forms of medication, so patients will be eligible for PilPouch based on their medication needs.

Patients can now register interest in receiving PilPouch and see if it is suitable for their medication needs at either of the participating Rowlands branches.

Once registered, an electronic prescription request from a local GP surgery will arrive at the pharmacy as usual but it will then be submitted to Rowlands’ central PilPouch facility for packing – offering all the regulatory safety and quality assurance checks – before delivered directly to the designated Rowlands branch.

A spokesperson for the company said: “The new tailored personal prescription service from Rowlands offers patients an easy, safe and convenient way to manage prescription medicines and frees up more time for pharmacy teams to focus on patient care.”
