Visitors and shoppers to Wrexham Town Centre will soon be able pay for their car parking via card transactions with the introduction of new ticket machines.

Over the next few months new ticket machines will be installed in all council owned car parks across the town centre.

The new machines will allow for cash and card transactions, meaning payments will not only be more secure but also be more convenient for visitors who may not have spare change to hand.

Proposals for the new car parking machines were approved by the Executive Board in January, with funding made available from the Council’s Revenue Out-turn Budget.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “We want to do all we can to ensure Wrexham remains attractive to visitors and shoppers.

“Earlier this year, we dropped the tariffs in all of our car parks, and we hope the further move of modernising our ticket machines will do more to attract visitors into the town and make parking in the town even more convenient.

“We only control a small proportion of the overall car parking spaces in the town centre– about 22% per cent – but we can do a lot with that, and we hope this will go some way to encouraging more people into the town.”

Over the past few months a number of town centre ticket machines have been the subject of vandalism – resulting in the ticket machines often being out of order.

Cllr Bithell added:  “We know the previous machines have been unreliable to use and continually damaged, and I know this has caused frustration to members of the public. The new machines will have different methods to pay and will help to deter vandals or thieves.”

Earlier this year Wrexham Council also unveiled new parking tariffs for the Waterworld and Crown Buildings car parks – allowing shoppers to park for three hours for £2. All day parking in the two car parks is also available for just £2.
