Plans for a two-storey primary school in Caia Park have been submitted to Wrexham Council.

The application proposes that the new school is built on the land behind the existing Haford y Wern Junior School. On completion of the new development, the old Junior school would be demolished, however the Infant school would remain as it is.

It is stated in the application’s ‘Design and Access Statement’ that the new school would be a ‘landmark building’, that would be constructed from a number of different materials and colours.

The design of the new school would consist of a ‘steel frame construction, with a variety of cladding to the elevations’. Alongside this a new staff car park and mesh fence around the school would also be implemented.

Haford y Wern school was built-in the 1950’s and it is predicted the school only has 4.5 years left of ‘useful life’.

At present the school can hold 259 pupils, however there is demand for additional places. The new development would allow the school to have a capacity of around 315 pupils

The application for the development states that it is ‘part of a ‘longer term project to enhance’ both Hafod y Wern and Gwenfro schools.

As part of the long-term project, the two schools will be brought up to modern standards and serve the needs of the community.
