New PCSOs out training in Wrexham – “Please stop and say hello!”
Several new police community support officers (PCSO) are out an about around Wrexham, with a six week training period kicking off this week.
Wrexham’s Inspector Vic Powell told us, “We’ve got a whole new bunch of brand new PCSOs starting this week.
“We have taken on nine brand new PCSOs today, so they they’re going through their training. So you will see lots of PCSOs out there over the next six weeks in pairs.
“That is not because they do not want to go out on their own, it is just part of the training process so that we get the right people trained in the right places by the right people. I’m really looking forward to that happening.
“They will be with their tutors over the next six weeks, and fingers crossed independent after that.”
One familiar face around town is set to be leaving for a new role inside North Wales Police, with Insp. Powell explaining: “The Neighbourhood Team is restructuring slightly in terms of personnel, and PC Dave Evans is going which is a great loss to us.
“But we’ve got three new PCs coming in, we had two vacancies and with Dave Evans going to different duties, we have that covered in the new year.”
“So we’re not far off full strength, and just shoring up our strength a little bit which is quite nice and the Neighbourhood Team will be firing on almost all cylinders.”
“So please, if you see any of our officers out and about, please stop and say hello!”
Due to a Sergeant promotion process that is completing it also seems there could be new personnel in that area too: “It is quite an exciting time really, going in to the New Year, it is a bit of a new team.
“Some old faces and some new ones, which is good. Change is good, it keeps everyone fresh, and happy, so really positive and lots to look forward to in the New Year.”
For those interested in becoming a PCSO there is more information here on the North Wales Police site, that notes “If you enjoy variety, meeting people and want to make your community a safer and more pleasant place to be, this is the job for you!”
