New glamping site could be created at farm on outskirts of Wrexham

A new glamping site could be created at a farm on the outskirts of Wrexham in a bid to boost the local economy.

Proposals have been put forward for 16 safari tents to be placed on land at Bowling Bank Farm in Worthenbury to provide a luxury camping experience.

The plans would also result in the conversion of an existing stable block into a shop, cafe and bar.

If approved by Wrexham Council, landowner Dorian Hopkins said the scheme would help to draw visitors to the area and benefit the village by supporting local businesses.

In documents submitted on his behalf, planning agents said: “The proposed development would contribute to the sustainability and well-being of the village of Worthenbury through the provision of local facilities and local employment opportunities.

“The applicant has already embarked on discussions with local producers, several of whom live in the local area, about the prospect of selling their products which include eggs, firewood and honey.

“As such, the proposed development would support local business and cottage industries and provide an outlet for local producers to sell their produce through.

“There are currently no shops or café facilities in Worthenbury and the development would address this and assist the economic activity of the rural area and the sustainability of the village.

“It would comprise a significant investment into a site which is currently vacant.”

They added the glamping site had been designed to fit in sympathetically with its rural surroundings.

According to the proposals, a loyalty scheme will be offered to local residents for the use of the bar and cafe.

A total of 31 parking spaces have also been included in the plans, along with three charging points for electric vehicles.

The local authority is expected to make a decision on the application at a later date.
