The newly redeveloped assessment unit in the Children’s Ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital is now open with increased bed numbers and two new isolation cubicles.

Work is also ongoing to create a new ward space for older children and young people which will have beds, an ensuite and direct access to a social area for older children who need to stay in the ward.

The remodelling has been carried out by Gareth Morris Construction who have worked with hospital staff to keep the department running and fully functional through the major works. The staff from GMC construction also donated Easter eggs to the children on the ward.

Rebecca Morris, Children’s Ward Sister said, “We are so pleased to have the assessment unit back up and running.

“It’s great to have some extra capacity in the unit and better facilities for our patients and their families.

“Gareth Morris Construction have been a considerate and concerned contractor prior to, and during what can be very intrusive works to the daily activities of the ward.

“Their generous gesture of providing Easter Eggs demonstrates their caring approach and is greatly appreciated by the children and staff.”
