Wrexham’s MP has visited a local business to congratulate staff on winning a major industry award.

Silverlining, based on Wrexham Industrial Estate, triumphed at the 2019 Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, which recognise and encourage outstanding achievements in business in the UK.

The firm, which uses advanced and inventive techniques to produce bespoke luxury furniture, was a winner in the Innovation category.

Their victory followed on from success in last year’s Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, where they were recognised in the International Trade section.

Wrexham MP Ian Lucas recently visited the premises where he was taken on a tour by founder and CEO Mark Boddington and shown some of the techniques used to design and make Silverlining’s one-of-a-kind furniture.

Mr Lucas said: “Silverlining is a world-class business and a real success story. I’m hugely impressed by their growth and their hugely skilled workforce, many of whom are from Wrexham or the surrounding areas.

“It gives me great pleasure to see a firm from Wrexham competing in a global market and I congratulate Mark and his team on their success in the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. Competition is always fierce, but they were very worthy winners.”

Silverlining relocated from Chester to Wrexham in 2013. Exporting carefully crafted products across the world, their workforce has increased from 13 to more than 70 in just six years.

The company harnesses traditional craftsmanship with advanced technologies to produce high-end, world-leading products. Novel methods of bleaching, colouring and etching wood are among the innovative techniques incorporated in designs.

The Queens Awards scheme was instituted by Royal Warrant in 1965 and the first awards were made in 1966. This year, 201 UK businesses have been recognised for their contribution to international trade, innovation, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility.
